Crushed By Waves

| Support for Self Deception |

My sister and I made our way to The Exchange in Bristol for the Self Deception Destroy The Art Tour, determined as always to catch every band on the bill. And honestly, we couldn’t have been happier that we did.
I’ll be 100% upfront—I hadn’t heard of Crushed by Waves before that night. They were a last-minute replacement due to another band’s illness, but within a song or two, they had us completely hooked. For an “opening band,” their energy and crowd interaction were on another level. Hailing from Manchester, these guys brought raw talent, infectious enthusiasm, and a performance that will be etched in the memories of the crowd for a long time.

DESTROY THE ART TOUR ’25

From the moment they stepped on stage, it was clear that Crushed by Waves was a tight, cohesive unit, having just as much fun as the audience. This is a band that, personally, I find really difficult to pigeonhole into a particular genre, but gun to my head, I would say they’re a gritty rock/metal hybrid with a little sprinkling of something special.

It’s always a highlight when a vocalist jumps into the crowd, and Arran did exactly that—turning the gig into an all-out party.

I had the chance to chat with Arran outside after their set, and I can confirm — this guy is as cool as he looks. Down-to-earth and genuinely appreciative, he took the time to speak with everyone who approached him. And to be fair, so did the rest of the band.

Open up your mind, and let me see inTake a taste of mine, we need to feel itAnd I know it’s not the same for youAs it is for me butWe’ve got nothing left to lose

Crushed By Waves are:

  • Arran Prime | Vocalist
  • Andy Hoskinson | Guitar
  • Dan Collict | Guitar
  • Tom West | Drums

REAL PEOPLE

What really sealed the deal for me was seeing Arran in the crowd during Self Deception’s set, singing, dancing, and having just as much fun as the rest of us. It’s always great to see musicians who aren’t just performers but true fans of the scene.
Now, after experiencing their live show and diving into their recorded material, I truly believe Crushed by Waves has the potential to become a major name in the genre. If you get the chance to see them live—don’t hesitate. You won’t regret it.

Mae’s Moment:

Seeing a band in our genre of music that is able to mix alternative and feel-good vibes is always a recipe for a great time.
My favourite part of seeing these guys live was Arran’s ability and confidence with crowd control, which was honestly fantastic.
He had us swaying our arms, clapping, dancing, and even managed to get everyone in the venue down low for an impending drop whilst he was in the pit with us.
It’s always nice when an artist feels comfortable enough within our community to get involved with us, and his energy really did set the night off right.
With little time to prepare due to them being a very last minute replacement, honestly it’s clear that they are a very tight ship and it shows in their performances.
